Although she says she’s not ready for a sexier image when it comes to movies, Toni Gonzaga had no qualms about doing a sexy pictorial for the cover of a popular fashion magazine. The 27 year-old says that even though she is used to being covered up, she didn’t mind wearing less than usual for the pictorial. “Hindi, kasi summer, alangan naman mag-Maria Clara tayo ‘pag summer. Siyempre ‘pag summer medyo summer attire pero hindi naman tayo bo-border sa ipapakita na natin lahat. Very, very light lang. Light lang talaga lahat. Hindi naman tuloy-tuloy siguro kasi nagkataon lang na summer. Alam ko na hindi ko naman pinakita lahat. I was consulted with the clothes so walang problema yung shoot because I was well taken care of by the staff. The last time I did a cover shoot with them was nung 2005 pa. After six years saka pa lang ako ulit pumayag. Tapos sabi nila gusto nila something different lang naman. Not totally different, little lang,” she shared after her contract-signing with Star Cinema held last March 29 at the ABS-CBN compound.Toni admitted that she still had some reservations when it comes to wearing swimsuits for the camera. “Personally, my choice was hindi ko kaya na full-on na two-piece talaga na bra at panty. Hindi ko pa kaya. So yun lang. Sinabi naman nila na since it’s summer they’ll give me variations na hindi naman siya parang two-piece na sexy. Tapos I said sige, okay naman ako. ‘Pag mapapansin niyo naman yung cover, hindi siya talaga full-on two-piece all the way,” she said.
When she saw the layout, Toni said she was happy with the result. She didn’t encounter any problem with her boyfriend Paul Soriano either. “Natuwa naman ako kasi ngayon ko lang nakita yung ganung itsura ko so nakakatuwa naman. Of course si Direk Paul naiintindihan niya yung trabaho ko at saka alam naman niya, kilala naman niya ako so kung ano man yung desisyon na ginagawa ko, hindi niya pinagdududahan naman yun because he trusts me,” she said.
When it came to her parents, Toni said her Mommy Pinty had some reservations about the photos. “Si Mommy Pinty, medyo nagkaroon lang ng konting reaction at text messaging (laughs). She said there was too much cleavage. Too much lang naman. Pero sabi ko 27-years old na ako, hindi 17 years old. Nakakalimutan niya. Akala niya kaka-mens ko lang eh (laughs). Akala niya kahapon lang ako nagkaroon. Hindi niya alam bente-siyete na yung anak niya. So yun lang naman,” she shared.
Her father on the other hand, has yet to find out about the whole matter. “Actually itong mga pag-uusap na ito, hindi pa ito alam ni Daddy. That’s also a different story. Itong Mommy Pinty medyo napakikiusapan natin yan, the daddy, iha-hide namin talaga ito. Hindi niya malalaman itong mga pangyayaring ito (laughs),” she said in jest.
All in all, Toni said she is proud of how her cover pictorial came out. “Siyempre ‘pag summer alam mo naman na may konting skin so very light ang clothes. Actually hindi naman siya ganun ka-big deal kasi nung nakita ng mommy ko, nagkaroon lang ng konting text react tapos nag-move on na siya. Kasi okay naman. It was not done in a trashy way. Alam naman natin yung reputation nung mag, they always do classy shoots and I personally have no complaints din. Wala naman akong any reaction,” she said reassuringly.
