Mariel Rodriguez was jumping for joy in the dressing room last June 8 after her team, the Yehey Unicorn, won the Happy Ka Family Championship Game portion of Happy Yipee Yehey. The Yehey Unicorn, which includes John Estrada, Bianca Manalo, John Prats, Jason Francisco, and Bentong, had also won the two previous seasons of Happy Ka Family, making this recent win their threepeat victory.Mariel expressed how proud she is of her team, “Ako kasi ang weakest link ng grupo. Lagi ako ‘yung nagpapatalo sa amin. Kanina pray talaga ako nang pray na wala akong magawang kahit ano na ikakabagsak ng team. I’m so happy na magaling ‘yung teammates ko, magaling ‘yung leader namin.”
John Estrada, the team captain, was happy with how his team defeated their rival for three seasons in a row. “Napakasarap ng feeling. Pangatlo na namin ito. Actually gusto namin na ‘yung Tarsier na lang ang manalo. Pero wala talaga tayong magagawa. Kami talaga. Ha ha ha!” The losing Yipee Tarsiers include Randy Santiago, Pokwang, Toni Gonzaga, Matteo Guidicelli, Melai Cantiveros, and special guest Vice Ganda.
Mariel shared that this special portion in HYY, which serves like a daily sports fest among the hosts, makes her day because she gets to the chance to get athletic. “Ang dami kong galos. Si Bianca may mga galos na. Masaya rito kasi nailalabas namin ‘yung pagkamakulit naming lahat. Walang artista dito. Si Toni, Multi-Media Star ‘yan, pero kapag naglalaro, parang normal na tao lang.”
She denied though that this game is causing tension among the hosts. Mariel further pointed out how members of the Tarsier group accepted their loss maturely. “Nag-grow na kami ngayon. Friendly competition lang naman. Si Matteo mabait sa amin. Si Pokwang kapag nananalo sila pumapasok ‘yan sa dressing room namin tapos magyayabang pero friends.”
What’s more important, according to Mariel, is how six days a week all of them get the chance to be together and bond like a family even behind the camera. “Nakakatulong ‘yung halos araw-araw ‘yung show, lagi kaming magkakasama. Nagiging mas close kaming lahat. Feel na feel namin na isang pamilya kami.”
