DZMM Launched Buntis Congress

Over 900 expectant mothers got a crash-course on the dos and don’ts of motherhood at the 9th DZMM Buntis Congress last May 21 at the SM Megamall Megatrade Hall 1.

Experts from the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), Commission on Population (COP), Midwives Association of the Philippines (MAP), National Nutrition Council (NNC) and Food Nutrition Research Institute offered tips and lectures in the event hosted by Winnie Cordero, Onse of “DZMM LOL” and DJ Chacha of “Tambayan 101.9 San Ka Pa.”

Dr. Bless Salvador, an OB – Gynecologist and a DZMM resident told the participants how to deal with their pregnancy, from the time that they find out about it until they have given birth. She implied that aside from self enrichment, it’s a must for future mothers to have their monthly check up so they can monitor the development of their babies.

Meanwhile, Dr. Evelyn Del Castillo and Vicenta Borja, the supervising health officer of the National Center for Disease Prevention and Control of the Department of Health (NCPDC-DOH), taught the mothers the basics of breastfeeding, how it is done and what the different techniques they can use.

Dir. Eric Tayag, assistant secretary of the Department of Health, used some creativity in his lecture by first leading them in a “Waka-Waka” dance. Artists like “Star Power” champion Angeline Quinto and celebrity mom Tintin Bersola-babao also came to provide amusement and encouragement to the mothers.

The would-be-moms were also given baby bags. Bathroom, Bedroom, recreation showcases were also raffled away.

For the ninth straight year, DZMM has staged the Buntis Congress Year to help nurture and enrich future moms with knowledge that they need in their journey as mothers. This year, the congress focused on the practice of breastfeeding as studies have proven that breastfeeding serves as foundation for the baby’s development.
