While Happy Yipee Yehey is gradually doing better in the ratings since it started last February, host Mariel Rodriguez said that she is just glad for the chance to entertain and help other people. “Sa totoo lang hindi ako ma-ratings na tao kasi nade-depress ako, so I choose not to know. Ang importante sa akin ang reaksyon ng mga tao ‘pag lumalapit sila sa akin, [sumisigaw sila) Happy Yipee Yehey!” She revealed that for the longest time, some people—particularly OFWs who watch The Filipino Channel—would tell her that they watched her during her stint in Wowowee. So it is a welcome change that people are now starting to identify her with Happy Yipee Yehey!The bubbly host-actress also related that she is aware that their direct competitor is tough to beat since it has been airing for decades. “Ang Eat… Bulaga! hinahangaan ‘yan ng lahat, sobrang institusyon ‘yan,” she explained. “Ang kapal naman namin para ikumpara namin ang mga sarili namin sa Eat… Bulaga!” More than the competition, she explained that the staff of Happy Yipee Yehey! is just glad to give an alternative show for the Filipino viewers and added that she thinks it is a good idea if other rival TV networks would come up with their own noontime shows. “Kung kunwari ang ibang stations, ito very personal [opinion] ito ah… personally, kung sakali man magkaroon ng noontime ang ibang networks, this will give a lot of people more chances of winning, pag-asa sa buhay,” she justified. “Hindi ba natin gusto ‘yan sa lahat ng tao? Marami tayong mapapasaya. Hindi ako magiging greedy about that. As much as possible give all, why not, di ba?”
And as Happy Yipee Yehey! continues to get better, Mariel revealed in a recent interview that the show’s family will get bigger. She first revealed than semi-regular host Melai Cantiveros is now going to be seen regularly. “Hindi ko alam kung pwede ko nang sabihin pero gusto ko talaga sabihin dahil sobra ko talagang saya… lalong lalaki ang pamilya ng Happy Yipee Yehey!�� she beamed. “Ayokong magsabi [kung sino ang papasok]. Basta masaya ako na lalong lalaki ang pamilya ng Happy Yipee Yehey! at dapat talagang abangan n’yo ‘yan,” she said. But the management has yet to announce who will be the additional co-host(s) in the show.
Speaking of co-hosts, Mariel also revealed that her relationship with co-host Toni Gonzaga continues to get better. The two had a falling out last year. “Kasi sa amin ni Toni, nagkulang lang ng pag-uusap. Ngayon ‘pag nakita mo kami parang walang nangyari, normal.”
Mariel also denied claims that the hosts of Happy Yipee Yehey! are supposedly not as close as they project on TV. “So far kaming lahat, okay kami,” she stressed. She added that the entire team gets together to pray daily before they start. “Every morning we pray. That’s one thing I’m grateful [for]. Maganda ang samahan. Our sharing is beyond work, we have spiritual guidance from God, ang sarap (sa pakiramdam).”
