Several celebrities mentioned by television host Willie Revillame in his "farewell speech" last Friday reacted to the “Willing Willie” host's tirades.Most of them also took to Twitter where they first expressed their opinions against the issue on a gyrating 10-year-old on Revillame's show in TV5.
Revillame lashed at Jim Paredes, Agot Isidro, Mylene Dizon, Bianca Gonzalez, Tuesday Vargas, and international star Lea Salonga for their opinions on an issue that has led the show's major advertisers to withdraw, has become the subject of a regulatory inquiry, and has resulted in Revillame's 2-week leave from the show.
Celebrities Vargas and Dizon shrugged off Revillame's tirades.
“pack up! now ko lang nabasa lahat ng tweets. In light of this uproar, I will remain tolerant and silent,” Vargas tweeted.
Dizon, on the other hand, said: “I will not be bullied. I [am] not threatened. Sticks and stones may break my bones but your words will never hurt me.”
TV host Gonzales and singer-songwriter Paredes said Revillame's tirades were not able to hurt them or their image.
“i really believe that what a person says or writes is a reflection of the kind of person he or she is. :),” according to Gonzalez's tweet.
"i learned a lot on twitter tonight! difference between an informed and uninformed opinion. :)" she added in a reply to her Twitter friends.
Paredes downplayed himself in his tweet: “How can a laos, old, over the hill guy like me destroy a sikat, powerful, rich Superstar like Willie?"
"He did it all by himself,” he said, purportedly referring to Revillame.
Singer Isidro, whom Revillame said has no right to join in the chorus since she does not have a child, gave a general reply in her Twitter account.
“Coz I am beautiful in every single way, words can't bring me down,” she said.
While most of the celebrities refused to comment on camera, Tony Award-winning actress Lea Salonga expressed hers when asked about it while attending a protest rally in Ayala Alabang on Saturday.
Salonga said that she has not seen Revillame's statement but she said she “was within my rights to comment and express my opinion [because] we live in a democracy.”
The international singer also said in her official Twitter account that she won’t say anything provocative about it.
“And that is all I'm going to say. Nothing incendiary will be coming from me. No need for it,” she said.
Moreover, Aiza Seguerra in a text message sent to ABS-CBN News by her manager Ms. Malou Choa-Fagar said she chooses to to stay quiet.
