AJ Perez's Family Recounts Moments With the Late Young Actor

Three days after the demise of young actor AJ Perez, the actor’s mom said she will never forget all the memories her son has left.

In an exclusive interview with ABS-CBN News, Marivic Perez recounted how AJ was extra sweet to her the night before he left for Dagupan where he would join the "Kapamilya Karavan" show.

“The night before the accident... he asked me, ‘Mom can I sleep with you tonight?’ Sabi ko, 'Why not?' I didn't know that it will be the last na pala that I can hug him, kiss him...mahirap,” she said.

Late Saturday evening, just hours before AJ got involved in a vehicular mishap in Tarlac, Marivic revealed that she strangely felt uneasy.

“Kasi I was really worried… I texted, then called up, the last time I received a call from AJ was 9:40 p.m. telling me that he will be home soon and that I shouldn't worry,” she said.

Marivic said moving on may take some time but it helps to know that AJ is in a better place right now.

“I always ask AJ to give me more strength. Anak...I’m sure he's helping me. I feel so good hearing all those good words for AJ, makes me and my husband proud parents. He's almost a perfect son,” she said.

Just like AJ’s mom, the actor’s younger brother, Gelo, said he will also miss AJ.

“Mga harutan namin, when he's not busy we also always play around. When he brought me sa ‘ASAP’ sa Jabawokeez, alam niya I was a fan, dinala niya ako sa stage para magpa-picture...I was really happy talaga,” said Gelo.

Gelo revealed that his brother looked up to actor Rico Yan, a Star Magic artist who died 9 nine years ago during Holy Week.

“He wanted to follow in the footsteps of Rico Yan. It makes me proud that my brother touched so many lives, hearing their stories that he made everybody happy,” said Gelo.

Faced by the challenge of moving on, Gelo believes AJ will just be around to strengthen them.

“It's gonna be hard... I know that if I be strong, my brother will be proud of me,” he said.

Meanwhile, representatives from the Eye Bank personally went to AJ’s wake to hand over a certificate to his family for donating the actor’s cornea.

Ali Sotto, mother of the late Miko Sotto, also visited the wake to tell the family that their decision to donate AJ’s cornea was admirable.

“Like AJ, Miko also donated ‘yong cornea niya... It's comforting to know hindi meaningless ‘yong death ng anak mo,” said Ali.

AJ’s remains are set to be interred on Tuesday at the Manila Memorial Park.
