Sam Milby Open to do Gay Roles

Sam Milby, one of the country's bankable stars, is open to the idea of taking on a gay role in a movie.

“It really depends on the script. I think, kapag acting piece (why not),” Milby told reporters during a press conference for the rerun of his independent film "Third World Happy."

Milby said if he will do a gay role, he will make sure it won’t be like the late Heath Ledger's film "Brokeback Mountain."

“I never watched the movie and it was very [much] talked about. I heard medyo torrid ang kissing scenes nila. I don’t know if I can go to that extent. But I guess it depends on the script and the role, if it's an acting piece,” Milby said.

Asked who he wants to be his leading man, Milby said: “I think if I'm going to do a role like that, it will be more fun if you're with people you're comfortable with, like Praty, si John Prats.”

Aside from shooting a film with actress-host KC Concepcion, Milby is busy promoting his second indie film, "Third World Happy."

The film revolves around the simple life of a "balikbayan" named Wesley (Milby) who left the Philippines and his girlfriend Aylyn (Jodi Sta. Maria) in order to pursue his dream of becoming a painter.

"Third World Happy", directed and written by EJ Salcedo, is currently showing at selected SM cinemas nationwide until May 31.

Milby's performance in the film garnered him a Best Actor nomination in the 34th Gawad Urian this year.

Sta. Maria, meanwhile, bagged the Best Supporting Actress trophy for the same film in the Cinema One Originals 2010 awards
